Accomplishments

Wesley Hunt was born and raised in Houston, TX, in a military family and is a proud St. John's School alumnus. Upon graduation from St. John's, Wesley accepted an appointment at the United States Military Academy at West Point.

In 2004, he graduated from West Point and spent eight years in the Army as an Apache helicopter pilot.

Wesley's service included one deployment to Iraq, where he flew 55 combat air missions, and two deployments to Saudi Arabia as a Diplomatic Liaison Officer.

Upon completion of his military service as a Captain, Wesley attended Cornell University and earned a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.), a Master of Public Administration (M.P.A.), and a Master of Industrial and Labor Relations (M.I.L.R.).

Wesley has served as a U.S. Congressman since 2023 and sits on the House Natural Resources and Judiciary Committees.

In addition to his military and Congressional service, President Trump appointed Wesley to the United States Military Academy Board of Visitors in 2025.

Wesley is a lifelong conservative and an active community member who has dedicated his time to military service and volunteer work, protecting our country and improving the Houston area.

He and his beautiful wife, Emily, have three children, Victoria, Olivia, and Willie Parish Hunt II

Wesley Hunt has achieved numerous legislative accomplishments and awards since joining the United States House of Representatives. Notably, he is the lead sponsor of the Royalty Resiliency Act (H.R. 7377), which he sponsored to amend the Federal Oil and Gas Royalty Management Act of 1982 and improve the management of federal oil and gas royalties. This bill advanced through the House and became Public Law 118-81 on September 20, 2024. It is the only oil and gas legislation signed into law by President Biden, and Wesley Hunt was the sponsor.

Another significant first-term bill he sponsored was the Recruit and Retain Act of 2024 (H.R. 3325), introduced on May 15, 2023, to increase COPS grant flexibility, allowing law enforcement agencies to use federal support for recruitment activities. To keep our streets and neighborhoods safe for our children, we must properly fund our law enforcement officers.

Hunt also sponsored the Protecting Americans from Russian Litigation Act of 2024 (H.R. 9563), which aimed to limit civil actions that could be used to target U.S. entities through litigation driven by sanctioned or state-affiliated Russian actors. By protecting American companies that withdrew from contracts and agreements in compliance with formal sanctions from Russian retribution, Rep. Hunt is continuing to put pressure on Vladimir Putin and help end his war on those who oppose him. The Protecting Americans from Russian Litigation Act of 2024 was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives in 2024.

He also sponsored the Mandatory Removal Proceedings Act (H.R. 6971), which would require the Department of Homeland Security to initiate removal proceedings immediately for aliens whose visas are revoked on security or related grounds.

Beyond stand-alone substantive bills, Hunt also spearheaded ‘America-First’ issues, such as House Resolution 571 (H.Res. 571), which expressed support for designating July as “American Pride Month” and H.Res.1511, which expressed support for the designation of September 2024 as "National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month”.

Hunt has also received several awards for his policy work, including the International Association of Drilling Contractors’ Distinguished Legislator Award. This formal acknowledgment is highlighted in his official press materials as recognition for his work on issues the organization considers substantively important to the oil and gas industry.

Hunt was also honored with the Defender of Economic Freedom award by The Club For Growth during the 1st and 2nd sessions of the 118th Congress, for his consistent advocacy of limited government, lower taxes, deregulation, and economic freedom. Additionally, he received the Conservative Excellence Award from the Center for Legislative Accountability for his ongoing dedication to America’s founding principles and the U.S. Constitution. Moreover, he was recognized by the National Association of Community Health Centers as the Distinguished Community Health Center Advocate for his efforts in supporting America's health centers, enhancing access to comprehensive, high-quality, and cost-effective healthcare.

Appropriations FY24

Through the Appropriations Committee, Rep. Hunt has had great success in securing funding for Community Funded Projects across the district and the Greater Houston area. For Fiscal Year 2024, Rep. Hunt secured more than $50,000,000 in federal funding for safety equipment for the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, flood mitigation projects with Harris County, infrastructure projects at Port Houston, and local street remediation projects in Tomball, Jersey Village, Hedwig Village, and Hunters Creek Village.

On January 3rd, 2025, Congressman Wesley Hunt was sworn in as Texas 38’s Representative once again. In the 119th Congress, Wesley’s legislative accomplishments only continued to grow.

In the 119th Congress, Wesley Hunt introduced the CORE Act of 2025 (H.R. 2556) to enhance national security and energy independence by conducting thorough assessments of offshore energy resources. American energy dominance is a top priority for Wesley Hunt, and he has fought tirelessly in Congress to secure our nation's future prosperity. To unlock American energy, we need an impartial evaluation of our available resources in the Gulf of America.

After Hurricane Beryl, Rep. Hunt introduced the POWER Act of 2025 (H.R. 2599), which would grant a $500 tax credit to families affected by recurring natural disasters to buy a portable home generator. Having been without power for three weeks in 2024 after natural disasters, and with three young children, Rep. Hunt knew there was something he could do to help the thousands of other families like his who needed extra support at that time. Many families face difficult conditions after a natural disaster before life returns to normal, and Rep. Hunt hopes this bill can help provide some of that assistance.

The Protect LNG Act of 2025 (H.R. 3592), introduced by Congressman Hunt, aims to legally shield American Liquefied Natural Gas from woke climate lawfare. This legislation is intended to prevent the American public from facing soaring energy prices and an inadequate, unreliable power grid.

As a staunch advocate of protecting our Second Amendment, Congressman Wesley Hunt recently introduced the Second Amendment Restoration Act of 2025 (H.R. 6035). This bill was endorsed by the NRA and repeals gun control language included in the 2022 Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which passed during President Biden’s administration. This bill helps return federal policy to focus on violent criminals and the root causes of violence, not restrictions on law-abiding citizens.

Afghan SIV Termination and Security Review Act of 2025  (H.R. 6443), introduced by Congressman Wesley Hunt, the legislation terminates the Afghan Immigration Visa Program, cancels all pending applications, mandates security reassessments for current beneficiaries, and provides for the removal of any individuals found to be ineligible or to pose a threat to national security.

In the wake of the attack on our nation’s National Guard in Washington, D.C., Congressman Wesley Hunt introduced this legislation to ensure that those in our country are here legally and with good intentions. Individuals who are allowed on American soil must be properly vetted for the sake of national security and the safety of the American people.

On December 9, 2025, Congressman Hunt introduced the National Educator Safety and Accountability Act of 2025 (H.R. 6525). Approximately 10–12% of children experience sexual misconduct in school before they graduate. It is the responsibility of leadership to ensure that students walk into a safe learning environment every time they enter a school.

This legislation establishes a uniform national reporting mechanism, known as the National Educator Misconduct and Discipline Registry, to ensure that school employees cannot move between school districts without being properly vetted. The bill also creates a federal task force on educator sexual misconduct. It is incredibly important that we keep students safe as they receive their education.

Appropriations for FY26

Rep. Hunt has continued his advocacy for investment in the TX38 community and the Greater Houston area through the appropriations process by requesting a total of more than $100,000,000 for local projects in Fiscal Year 2026. These projects include street safety improvements, street drainage reconstruction, water line replacement, gateway lighting, and bridge reconstruction in partnership with the City of Tomball, the City of Houston, Hunter Creek Village, Jersey Village, and Harris County.

Additionally, as part of his mission to ensure that law enforcement officers and first responders are fully equipped, Rep. Hunt has secured funds for a new 100-foot aerial rescue fire truck for the Tomball Fire Department and requested funds for protective ballistic helmets, additional police vehicle safety equipment, and expanded capacity for services provided to victims of domestic and family violence.

In his continued effort to provide all available resources for the investment and growth of TX38 and the Greater Houston area, Rep. Hunt also helped secure more than $200 million in the President’s budget for infrastructure projects for the Houston Ship Channel.

Port Houston Chairman Rick Campo commented:

“This is a momentous achievement. We are grateful to Congressman Hunt and the Trump Administration for the $161 million to close out construction of Project 11 and the $53 million in the President’s Budget for maintaining the channel. I applaud Congressman Hunt’s tremendous advocacy and unwavering leadership, along with many in our Congressional Delegation, to bring home the millions of federal dollars needed to complete the expansion of the Houston Ship Channel. This project will keep our economy moving forward and enable our port to continue delivering for not just Houstonians, but the entire nation.”
