Washington, D.C. - Representative Wesley Hunt continues his moniker as Energy Congressman of the World after introducing H.R. 9472 – The Comprehensive Offshore Resource Enhancement (CORE) Act, which aims to gain an accurate assessment of undiscovered oil and gas reserves throughout the United States and Gulf of Mexico.
Under the Biden Administration, BOEM has purposefully deflated the amount of undiscovered oil and gas reserves in the Gulf of Mexico, which was used as the primary argument to offer the fewest number of oil and gas lease sales in a 5-year plan, ever.
The CORE Act addresses this politicized process directly by providing transparency to the geophysical and geological (G&G) resource mapping DOI conducts, while reforming the G&G survey application process and protecting G&G surveys from frivolous lawsuits led by climate activists.
"Time and time again we've seen the Biden Administration politicize mundane and traditionally non-partisan processes to harm America's oil and gas industry. The politicization of geophysical and geological surveys is no different," said Hunt.
"The United States and the entire world need more energy, especially from the Gulf of Mexico, as it is the cleanest and most efficient oil and gas found anywhere in the world. By requiring BOEM to have an accurate assessment of undiscovered oil and gas reserves, we can take the discretion of the 5-year lease plan away from partisan bureaucrats and rely on a transparent formula that would reduce energy prices for Americans across the entire country."
