Washington, D.C. -  Today, Congressman Wesley Hunt introduced - The Protect LNG Act of 2025 - This bill will advance our national energy interests by limiting frivolous litigation that aims to thwart American Energy.

In April 2024, several liquified natural gas (LNG) projects received final approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). This approval was challenged in court, and in August 2024, these projects were stopped.

The Protect LNG Act of 2025 addresses litigation relating to an environmental review under the Natural Gas Act or the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) with respect to a covered facility. The litigation shall not affect the validity of a permit, license, or approval issued to the covered facility that is the subject of the litigation.

Additionally, the applicable court shall not set aside or vacate the permit, license, or approval issued to the covered facility, but instead remand the matter to the relevant Federal agency to resolve the violation; and the relevant Federal agency shall continue to process all covered applications.

Except for review in the Supreme Court of the United States, the court of appeals of the United States for the circuit in which a covered facility is, or will be, located shall have original and exclusive jurisdiction over any litigation to review an order issued by a Federal agency with respect to the covered application.

The applicable United States Court of Appeals shall set any litigation for expedited review, and set the action on the docket as soon as practicable after the filing date of the initial pleading.

Lastly, the Protect LNG Act of 2025 will limit judicial review of a permit, license, or approval issued by a Federal agency to 90 days after a notice in the Federal Register is published.

“Natural gas is the most impactful green initiative on the planet—it has the power to lift entire nations and communities out of poverty,” said Rep. Hunt. “Yet sadly, natural gas and LNG have been weaponized by the radical left and the climate cartel, driving up energy costs for hardworking Americans—just as we’re still reeling from the disastrous effects of Biden-flation.”

Rep. Hunt continued, “I’m proud to lead Senator Cruz’s effort in the House to strengthen our domestic LNG industry and ensure it provides the energy security and economic strength our nation needs.”
