Washington, D.C. - Yesterday, Congressman Wesley Hunt testified before the House Ways and Means Committee. During his testimony, Rep. Hunt advocated for the inclusion of his POWER Act in the 2025 reconciliation tax package, which would provide natural disaster-affected communities with a $500 tax credit to purchase emergency home generators.

Houston, Texas, endured several natural disasters in 2024, which led to nearly eight weeks of power outages. As the third largest county in the United States, Houstonians should have access to affordable and redundant electricity. Rep. Hunt's POWER Act also mandates that only American-manufactured emergency generators qualify for the tax credit.

President Trump released a statement in support of Wesley's legislation following a conversation the two had about Hurricanes Beryl and Helene.

President Trump endorsed Wesley's legislation after the two had a conversation about Hurricane Beryl and Hurricane Helene, and on October 11th, 2024,

"Last year, Houstonians endured a natural disaster that left them without power for 8 weeks. North Carolina was devastated by Hurricane Helene in September and is still in the dark. It’s past time for the federal government to step up and help Americans in crisis, said Rep Hunt. "I urge my friends and colleagues on the House Ways and Means Committee to keep the communities who were ravaged by natural disasters in mind as they negotiate the extension of President Trump's Tax Cuts and Jobs Act."
