Government Shutdown Resources

schumer shutdown

As of 12:01 a.m. on October 1, federal government funding lapsed, and a shutdown began. This shutdown—driven by Senator Chuck Schumer and Democrats demanding taxpayer funding for benefits for illegal aliens—has forced many federal agencies to reduce operations. Programs deemed essential will continue by law.

Even during this “Schumer Shutdown,” my office remains open and ready to serve the people of Texas’ 38th District.

My team will continue accepting constituent requests and working on your behalf.

You can submit casework directly at http://Hunt.House.Gov.

We will also keep you updated on how the shutdown may affect you and your family.

Please note: Social Security, Medicare, and veterans’ benefits will continue.

Stay informed by following me on social media @RepWPH across all platforms.

Resources for Federal Employees

As agencies scale back operations, federal employees may either be furloughed or, in some cases, required to work without immediate pay.

Federal law guarantees back pay once the government reopens.

Key Resources:

OPM Operating Status (https://www.opm.gov)

OPM Shutdown Furlough Guidance (https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/pay-leave/furlough-guidance)

Thrift Savings Plan – Lapse in Appropriations (https://www.tsp.gov)

For agency-specific information, please visit your department’s official site (e.g., www.dhs.gov, www.va.gov) and check their HR or shutdown resource pages.
